This note is to make modellers aware of a possible problem when re-assembling the new class 31locomotive from Hornby after body removal. It was found after stripping the locomotive and fitting a DCC decoder.

The end lighting units on this locomotive are connected by a set of contacts on the chassis floor and a matching set fitted into the dummy cab floor. The cab floor is removed automatically as part of the body removal and it is possible for this floor unit to move inadvertently when the body is removed or refitted. If this occurs then the contacts will not make and the lights will fail to work.

Before refitting the body to the chassis make sure that the cab floor unit is firmly in its correct position with the LED’s FULLY engaged into their recesses in the body ends. Failure to do this could mean that the cab floor unit will move upwards during refitting and the contacts will not make.
